FAQs

What inspires you?
Nature and fashion are my muses. I have oodles of homemade boards and binders, filled with clippings from books and magazines of things that make me tick. The latest clippings include an old yellow Mini Cooper, a white-painted brick wall and a speckled hen feathers.

How did you start Byrdie?
A regular patron at local art festivals, I applied for a booth at a local fall festival and made pieces to sell from antiques I hoarded over the years. After a surprisingly successful event, I quickly expanded my line by creating a Byrdie Etsy shop, applying to other festivals and contacting boutiques to sell my wears.

Where do you find your vintage charms?
Antique shops, flea markets, consignment shops, yard sales and estate sales. I love the hunt.

Where do you make all your jewelry?
In my studio in the most charming old mill in Hampden, my favorite neighborhood in Baltimore.

How should I care for my pieces? And can I wear them in the shower?
I use raw brass, copper and silver metals. Since I like more of an antique look, most have been oxidized so they're already darker in color. Because brass, copper and silver will oxidize naturally, they will patina with age. To prevent this, you should avoid wearing your pieces in the pool or the shower. If they naturally darken, you can easily clean your Byrdie wears with any metal polish.

Where can I buy Byrdie wears?
Why, right here on this website, on Etsy, in a string of boutiques and at festivals along the east coast.

Do you have suggestions for buying Byrdie jewelry as gifts?
It totally depends on the receiver. Email me for gift recommendations! I’ve become quite good at picking the right jewelry and recommending complimentary gifts with fancy gift wrap ideas.

What's your best-selling piece?
Totally varies, depending on the time of year. Right now, the antique metro token jewelry is selling like hot cakes. The old transit coins have so many amazing designs in such detail in such small coins. I think it’s neat to have a unique charm from your hometown or your favorite city.

Do you make wedding jewelry?
I’ve made several pieces for brides, grooms and bridal party gifts. Antique typewriter key cufflinks have been a popular men’s wedding gift this year. Email me with any questions about wedding jewelry.

Do you make custom pieces?
I certainly do. They just take more time to create, depending on the scope of the work. Email me for custom jewelry inquiries.

Is everything handmade?
Every single piece is handmade. The only materials that aren’t are jewelry chains, which come from a local jewelry supply store, and vintage & thrifted pieces that I repurpose in my work. All knitted pieces are hand-stitched by me. You’ll be seeing more of those in upcoming months. :)

Do you ship outside of the US?
Sure do. Email me if you have any issues shipping to  any location outside of the US.

How long until I get my purchase?
Everything is packaged and sent within 3 business days of your order. If you need speedier delivery, email me for shipping options.

Do you have a return policy?
I want everyone to love their Byrdie jewelry. If you’re not completely smitten over your purchase, you can send it back for a full refund, or exchange it for something else. Just email me for help.

Do you take wholesale orders?
Yes. Email me for wholesale pricing and information.
